Paul's Lottery

Testimony #4

Paul saw the hand of God working for a discouraged cell mate.

Anthony had come to him asking “Hey Paul, I’ve been really down all day. Would you give me something from the Bible to lift me up a little?”

Then, for some reason, Paul took Anthony to Deuteronomy 4:2 which says, “You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”

So, Anthony thanked him and each went about his business.

Paul finished writing up the 50 ‘lottery tickets’ for distribution.  These ‘lottery tickets’ are each a different verse of scripture written on a little strip of paper, folded up and mixed in with the others.  Paul then goes around the dorm saying “take one” to the other inmates.  He came around to Anthony and held out the pile of folded strips saying, “Take one, brother!”

As Paul moved on to the next bunk, he heard Anthony exclaim, “No! You’ve got to be kidding me.”

Paul turned around to find out what was up, and as you probably already guessed, Anthony was holding the one strip that had Deuteronomy 4:2 written on it.

Anthony then knew that the God of heaven and earth had spoken directly and personally to him—and THAT turned out to be the encouragement he had asked for earlier in the day.

As Paul finished the story, the sixty men in the “Knowing Jesus” gathering applauded.  To see the Hand of God touching one of theirs in this way touched us all that afternoon.

This is the God we serve!  What a wonderful God He is!
